INTROSPECTION

INTRODUCTION 

The process of directly examining one’s own conscious mental states and processes or an examination of one’s own conscious thoughts and feelings.

MEANING OF INTROSPECTION

The word introspection derived from the latin wordI NTROSPICERE means “looking inwards”

INTRO- “inwards” & SPICERE- “to look at”.

STAGES OF INTROSPECTION

During the observation of an external object, the person beings to think over his own mental state. The person begins to question the working of his own mind. He tries to frame the laws and conditions of mental process.


ADVANTAGES 


.Cheap

.Can be used anytime, anywhere

.Easiest methods available

.Great source of personal knowledge 

.Enabling you to better recogonize and understand what you’re thinking and feeling.


DISADVANTAGES


.The state of one’s mental process is continuously changing

.Data collected cannot be verified

.Cannot be used on children , animals and persons suffering from mental disorders.

.Data is highly subjective. (based on personal understanding and opinion)


         TWO TYPES OF INTROSPECTION METHOD 

.Self reflection :-

 Taking the time to think about , meditation on, evaluate and give serious thought to your behaviours, thoughts, attitude, motivations and desires.

.Self rumination :-

Repetitive thinking or dwelling on negative feelings and distress and their causes and consequences
